A LITTLE ABOUT NEWVILLE CHURCH:

1)LOCATION: Newville Church is located just north of the intersection of Pole Run (616) and Hines Road (625) at 9014 Hines Rd, Disputanta, VA 23842.

2)HISTORY: The land was given for Newville church in 1882. The first stage of building on the site was completed and dedicated July 1883. The first Pastor (or earliest known pastor)was Rev. A. B. Warwick, who served the area from 1880-1884. The church cemetary dates from around 1900. Founded as a congregation of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South which through denominational mergers in 1939 and 1968 became part of "The United Methodist Church."

3)MEMBERSHIP: The number of members at founding was 10.
Today there are more than 135. Average attendance in worship is 35-65, and growing.

4)SPECIAL FEATURES: Newville church is situated in grove of old oak trees. The church's green roof and white steeple can be seen from a great distance on Hines Road. The entire church was expanded and remodeled in 1998-99 to maximize use by persons with handicapping conditions, and safety for children. The church has a child and youth protection policy. Characteristic of it's commitment to youth and children, the church has a ballfield diamond, soccer field and a playground. It also is the site of the relocated 1880's era "Newville Post Office," which has been refurbished as the Prince George Charge office.

5) MINISTRIES: Newville is noted for it's sponsorship of an Annual Newville Community Picnic in mid-July, children's and youth ministries, growing number of young couples joining from our growing neighborhood, drama packed Vacation Bible Schools, and being a community center in a rapidly developing part of Prince George County.

Anne Kolbe is a missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church assigned to Cambodia where she serves as coordinator for community-based primary health care work.
Of her ministry, Anne says, "Even the most basic primary health care needs of the poor of Cambodia continue to be unmet. (A Cambodian counterpart) and I will be designing and implementing a model of community development that will address basic health care needs of the village. We especially want to address the needs of the poor."
First Sunday communion rail offerings at Newville, plus proceeds from special projects like our Wreath Making Workshop in December, have been designated to underwrite the work of Anne Kolbe.

(Left and below) Newville's Vacation Bible School drama typically puts most of the church members "in the story." This is a picture from "The Life and Miracles of Jesus," our 1990 Bible School.

Newville cares about children and youth. We have a shaded playground, plus a soccer field and a softball / kickball field. We recently started a Middle High and older elementary youth program that draws 10-15 youth to bi-monthly gatherings for dinner, inspiration and Christian fellowship.

Our United Methodist Men's Group meets every 2nd Saturday at Newville for breakfast, prayer and fellowship. This is a fellowship for all men of the three churches and community. The president is Larry Gunnells, and the group was chartered in 2001. It is a mixed generation group, and we are hoping to recruit more young men this year as we start to think about ways of improving our community.

Newville United Methodist Church has a place for you!
